Construction documents may specify a particular product, but an addition, "similar product," must also be included. But what does "similar" actually mean? Is it a combination of letters and digits on a report, fact sheets or a classification report. There are really no exceptions for impairing the specified brand to a product that is not equivalent, such as proper manufacturing certification, quality control, product performance etc. Swapping an audited and approved product for another product that does not meet the equivalent performance criteria is a serious deviation and should be reported to among others the Building and Fire authorities and an expert fire consultant.
